Bar keluli tahan karat poligonal adalah aloi besi dengan minimum 10.5% kromium. Chromium menghasilkan lapisan oksida nipis pada permukaan keluli yang dikenali sebagai lapisan pasif. Ini menghalang sebarang kakisan permukaan. Meningkatkan jumlah kromium memberikan peningkatan ketahanan terhadap kakisan.
